The Grammar of Silence

Language is born before words — through breathing, touch and rhythm. The Grammar of Silence is a spatial installation built entirely of paper, in which origami is treated as a language. Each fold is like a sign, each pattern like a word, and together they form a spatial sentence.
The meaning of a fold is not given in advance. It emerges through the process of folding — through repetition, rotation and rhythm — much as a language model finds its meaning only in use. Here Wittgenstein's thought that meaning arises through use meets Jung's understanding of the symbol: a form that carries more than can be said about it.
The viewer steps inside the language itself. Movement through the space becomes an act of reading, each step like the turning of a page. The installation works through what I call passive interactivity: the presence of a body alters the grammar, and the shadow it casts introduces new elements into the syntax. In this the work is in conversation with Merleau-Ponty's phenomenology of the body and with Kurt Schwitters' Merzbau — a space that thinks with the one who enters it.
Against the speed of digital reading, the exhibition offers a slow, meditative one. A fold cannot be skimmed; it demands attention and time.
The work is not a finished project but a process — making, listening, and the slow coming together of parts into a whole. In January 2026 short poetic-philosophical texts were added to the space, small islands — discoverable, yet unobtrusive.
