This exhibition by sculptor and paper artist Anne Rudanovski –
the fourth exhibition of the series Appreciated and Abandoned
Books studying the meanings of and raising questions about the
book as a format – is a visual cultural-anthropological research
focusing on reading and everything it entails. Its methodological
basis is observation, statistics, and research in this field, as well as
personal experience and the artist's position.
The historical background of the building of the Kondas Centre
creates the context for the exhibition, and a place-specific
environment. It has inspired one of the conceptual axes of the
exhibition. Namely, the former vicarage at 8 Pikk street housed
Viljandi’s central library for 54 years.
Reading as a cultural phenomenon concerns all of us; it is
integrated in our complex perception of the world. The year 2010
was the Reading Year in Estonia, aiming to bring reading into the
spotlight and counterbalance the decline in reading habits. How
will we read in ten years? What standards have we adopted,
unnoticed? Books and readers, the relationship between the two
in the changing times – READING, these are the keywords of this
exhibition.
Sometimes it seems that we are living three (or even ten) lives at a
time. One of these is the life of reading.
Living a reader’s life is not easy, because it tends to steal. It takes
an hour here, another there, forgetting irresponsibly, or being
tormented with guilt, while the other lives are making their
demands. The secret meetings remain, however, and thinking of
the books that are waiting for you give energy to live the other
lives. I understand how happy I am. As you read the meaning from
the letters, the world will change, and experience brings meaning
to where meanings without letters begin. ꟷ How do you know?
My third life is reading.

See on Anne Rudanovski raamatu kui trükikunstiteose tähendusi uurivate näituste seeria „Hinnatud ja hüljatud raamatud” neljas näitus, visuaalne kultuurantropoloogiline uurimus, mille keskne teema on lugemine ja sellega kaasnev. Väljapanek tugineb vaatlusel, statistikal ja valdkonna uurimustel, samuti kajastuvad seal autori isiklikud kogemused ja kunstnikupositsioon.
Näitusele annab erilise tähenduslikkuse Kondase keskuse hoone ajalooline taust - nimelt oli Viljandi keskraamatukogu kodu 54 aastat just endines pastoraadihoones Pikk t 8.
Raamatute lugemine puudutab meid kõiki ja kujundab me maailmapilti. Aasta 2010 oli Eestis lugemisaasta, et taas tähtsustada seda kahaneva populaarsusega vaimset tegevust. Kuidas me loeme kümne aasta pärast? Millised põhimõtted oleme enesele märkamatult omaks võtnud? Raamat ja lugejad, nende suhe muutuvas ajas, lugemine ise - need on selle näituse märksõnad.

Kondase Keskuse ajutisest näitusest "Hinnatud ja Hüljatud raamatud IV. Lugemine." valmis pooletunnine virtuaaltuur, kus
skulptor ja paberikunstnik Anne Rudanovski tutvustab oma sarja "Hinnatud ja Hüljatud raamatud" näituse neljandat osa "Lugemine", mis uurib raamatut kui kultuurifenomeni ning lugeja ja raamatu suhet muutuvas ajas.
Tuur kulgeb kunstniku selgituste saatel läbi nelja näituseruumi, jagunedes neljaks omavahel seotud teemaks nagu "kohtumine", "võimalused", "kahekõne" ja "vaikus".
